Adapting free-space fast multipole method for layered media Green's function: Algorithm and analysis

چکیده

We present a numerical algorithm for an accurate and efficient computation of the convolution frequency domain layered media Green's function with given density function. Instead compressing matrix directly as in classical fast multipole, direct solver, H-matrix algorithms, this new considers translated form original so existing blocks from highly optimized free-space multipole method can be easily adapted to An asymptotic analysis is performed on Sommerfeld integrals provide estimate decay rate “multipole” “local” expansions. To avoid oscillatory integrand integral representations when source target are close each other, mathematically equivalent alternative direction introduced. The convergence expansions quadrature rules numerically validated.

Generalized fast multipole method

The fast multipole method (FMM) is a technique allowing the fast calculation of long-range interactions between N points in O(N) or O(N lnN) steps with some prescribed error tolerance. The FMM has found many applications in the field of integral equations and boundary element methods, in particular by accelerating the solution of dense linear systems arising from such formulations. Original FMM...

Functional Algorithm Simulation of the Fast Multipole Method: Architectural Implications

Functional Algorithm Simulation is a methodology for predicting the computation and communication characteristics of parallel algorithms for a class of scientiic problems, without actually performing the expensive numerical computations involved. In this paper, we use Functional Algorithm Simulation to study the parallel Fast Multipole Method (FMM), which solves the N-body problem. Functional A...

Fast Multipole Method for Time Domain PEEC Analysis

High-speed electronic circuits are becoming more and more important in modern communication systems, thus leading to an increasing interest in printed circuit boards, interconnect, and packaging. Nowadays, full-wave numerical methods are widely used in order to investigate both signal integrity and electromagnetic compatibility issues arising in PCBs design. When broadband information is desire...

Windowed Green Function Method for Layered-Media Scattering

This paper introduces a new Windowed Green Function (WGF) method for the numerical integral-equation solution of problems of electromagnetic scattering by obstacles in presence of dielectric or conducting half-planes. The WGF method, which is based on use of smooth windowing functions and integral kernels that can be expressed directly in terms of the free-space Green function, does not require...

Fourier Based Fast Multipole Method for The

The fast multipole method (FMM) has had great success in reducing the computa4 tional complexity of solving the boundary integral form of the Helmholtz equation. We present a 5 formulation of the Helmholtz FMM that uses Fourier basis functions rather than spherical harmonics. 6 By modifying the transfer function in the precomputation stage of the FMM, time-critical stages of 7 the algorithm are...
